Through immersive experiences and academic engagements, students will gain insights into the dynamic interplay between craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and contemporary design on a global scale.
By combining interactive sessions, field visits, and scholarly discourse, the course aims to provide an overview of the multifaceted landscape of art, craft and design in the Netherlands. Students will explore emerging contemporary art and craft practices while delving into the cultural significance and evolving trends in design.
Throughout the course, students will embark on field visits to diverse cultural institutions, architectural landmarks, museums, design institutes, and studio craft practitioners across prominent Dutch cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Delft and The Hague. This course encourages experiential learning and critical thinking about art, craft, culture, and design across different contexts. It fosters intellectual inquiry and cultural exchange to analyse connections between craft traditions, artistic exploration, cultural influences, and contemporary design practices.
