2022 / Monsoon Sem / Celebrating Crafts TOI-3

Nitya Parmar

Jivadori

Jay Thakkar (Tutor)

Kamna Vyas (Teaching Associate)

The entire studio focuses on developing ties between artisans and students. It helps one gain sensitivity towards crafts and the backstories of the artisans involved in it. It is a 'jivadori' for the craft people, which literally means lifeline in Gujarati. It is a mode of expression for people, it is love, it is emotions. Craft is very deeply embedded in many aspects of the artisans' life. The studio helped in empathizing with these aspects and realizing its importance. Despite the success received from crafts, the artisans are rooted to their culture.
